IAN WILSON (b. 1964)
Verschwindend (2001)
for solo piano | 5' | UK Premiere 2007
  • SummaryOpen or Close
Matthew Schellhorn gave the UK premiere of Ian Wilson's Verschwindend as the opening item in a recital at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge, in 2007.

This virtuosic, fast-paced and intricate work was composed as the test piece for the AXA Dublin International Piano Competition 2003.
  • Programme noteOpen or Close
Based on a short, nine-bar improvisation I played and recorded, Verschwindend (meaning ‘dying away’) reworks that phrase again and again in a process not unlike developing variation.
